The World's First Needle-Free COVID Vaccine Just Got Approved in China

Vaccination producer CanSino stated in a news release on Sunday that just one inhale of a vaccine mist can offer powerful immune defense against COVID-19 (Sept. 4).

The first substitute for the injectable vaccines used during the pandemic, a COVID-19 vaccine mist has been given the go-ahead by Chinese regulators for use as a booster dosage.

The inhaled vaccination is made of the same components as the injections administered in China, but a nebulizer transforms the liquid vaccine into an aerosol spray.
CanSino's formulation incorporates bits of genetic material so the body can recognize the virus, much like the COVID-19 vaccinations used in the US.

The CanSino vaccine conveys information about the coronavirus using a harmless variant of the common cold virus as opposed to the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, which deliver that material directly.

According to data released by the World Health Organization, the single-dose CanSino vaccine is around 58 percent effective at completely preventing illness and about 92 percent effective at preventing severe COVID-19 disease.

Following a single injection of the vaccine, clinical testing using the mist as a booster revealed it to be roughly as effective as the two-dose vaccine that is frequently used in Asia and overseas.

According to the press release, the nasal spray may improve defense in the lining of the nose and upper airways, where the virus generally enters the body.

The FluMist intranasal vaccination, which is frequently seen in pediatricians' clinics during flu season, is one of many vaccines that have previously been repackaged as mists.

Children and adults can also receive immunizations by inhalation, but research from prior flu seasons suggests that the mist may not always be as effective as a shot.

If the questionable COVID vaccination offers sufficient booster protection to be accepted and extensively distributed in other nations, that will only become clear with time.
