Asexual relationships need same ingredients as any other relationship

There hasn't been much research on how and why long-lasting, fulfilling relationships work for asexual people, or people with little to no sexual interest. The components of a successful relationship among asexual people are essentially the same as those in any other relationship, according to new research from Michigan State University, despite asexuals' lack of or aversion for sexual desire. William Chopik, associate professor in the MSU psychology department and coauthor of the study, said: "Asexuals don't have the urge for sexual interactions, but they nevertheless create romantic relationships and those connections seem at least somewhat comparable to non-asexuals' love relationships. According to research main author Aya Hatano, Ph.D., of Kyoto University in Japan, "humans have a surprising ability to immerse themselves in their own thinking." "Our research indicates that people have trouble understanding how entertaining thinking can be. That may help to explain why individuals would rather use gadgets and other forms of entertainment to keep themselves occupied than pause for thought and creativity on a regular basis. In a series of six studies involving a total of 259 people, the researchers compared people's estimates of how much they would enjoy simply sitting and thinking with their actual experiences of doing so. Yale researchers examined the different cell types in the prefrontal cortex of four different species of primates, and they found traits that were species-specific, notably human-specific, they write in the journal Science on August 25. Additionally, they discovered that part of what makes us human may also predispose us to neuropsychiatric illnesses. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC), a part of the brain that is particular to primates and necessary for higher-order cognition, was the focus of the study. Data from the American Psychological Association demonstrates that during the 1950s, cooperation between strangers has gradually increased in the United States, despite popular concerns that the social fabric is deteriorating. According to lead researcher Yu Kou, Ph.D., a professor of social psychology at Beijing Normal University, "we were surprised by our findings that Americans became more cooperative over the last six decades because many people believe U.S. society is becoming less socially connected, less trustworthy, and less committed to the common good." Greater cooperation inside and across societies could aid in addressing issues like pandemic preparedness, climate change, and refugee crises. Led by researchers from NYU Grossman School of Medicine, the new study on the brains of mice developing in the womb found that brain cells (neurons) with the same birthdate showed distinct connectivity and activity throughout the animals' adult lives, whether they were asleep or awake.
